Our annual Montpellier Day Street Fair brought out the locals as well as visitors from out of town. By 11am the street was buzzing. People enjoyed the display by Cotswold Classic Cars, remembering old family cars or dreaming about owning a classic. You wandered down the street via an eclectic mix of market stalls selling local Arts & Crafts, rugs from Kashmir, vintage home wares, locally designed & made leather goods, - candles, cakes, coffee, oysters, crepes, prints, jewellery, slippers & socks – a wonderful mixtures of wares.
The main ‘stage’ area at Harry Cooke’s attracted visitors to sit on the hay bales and enjoy the entertainment. The Rock Choir featuring 80 voices was a huge hit – they have to come back again. The Music Man, Cosmosis Rock Bank, Harper Ferry Folk Rock, Colin Hartley all rocked the street. Opposite The Courtyard there were two Brass Bands & a Silver Band – not all at once of course. People sat on the pavement, walls - anywhere they could to sit and listen.
In addition to all the stalls & bands, Danters Fun Fair & Cheltenham Town Football Club brought games & rides.
The Montpellier Association & their chosen charity : The Cobalt Centre held a successful raffle with prizes donated by the local traders. Money raise & winners to be announced shortly.
The variety in the street certainly encouraged you to explore. The shops, bars & restaurants spilled into the street creating a wonderful atmospheric street party. We know how to party in Montpellier!
Thank you to all who came and mostly especially Thank You to everyone in The Montpellier Traders Association for all your hard work in creating & hosting this event. Perhaps we should do it again next year??
