Montpellier - Cheltenham's Most Romantic Destination

Montpellier proved to be the quintessential Valentines destination this week as loved up couples booked out the area's cafes, bars and restaurants - with scarcely a table for two to spare.

Brasserie Blanc offered a special valentines Day menu for both lunch and dinner. It's newly refurbished bar proving a hit with couples enjoying a cocktail or two before dining.

Montpellier Flowers on Montpellier Street was in full bloom - typical of Montpellier the independently owned and managed Florist was able to offer the quirkiness, creativity and individuality unmatched by larger retailers.

Hotels and accommodation proved popular - despite Valentines Day falling awkwardly on a work-day. The Malmaison was the destination of choice with its cool spa, great lounge and award winning restaurant.

Another real attraction was the screening of Brief Encounter, possibly the most romantic film of all time, at Cheltenham Town Hall. World class pianist, Sinziana Mircea (in residence at the Montpellier Town House) played magnificently and was enthusiastically received with her recital of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2. with the almost capacity audience at the Town Hall.

All in all a most successful evening, proving Montpellier to be the destination for a romantic getaway at any time throughout the year.
